Photographer and Writer

Hi, I'm Diane Carter, sole artist and owner of Beach Chair Photography.

My work reflects my fondness of the sea which was cultivated at an early age by childhood trips to the beautiful beaches of New Jersey. In New Jersey, we don't go "to the beach" or "over to the coast" but rather "Down The Shore." Many of my most vivid and fondest memories were created here. Though moves and travels have taken me to other locations, I will always be a Jersey Girl at heart.

Today I reside in New England and many of my photos reflect the beauty of this area through all its remarkable seasons- the majestic rocky coastlines, the vibrant colors of fall, the snow-covered trees and back roads, and the blooming array of spring flowers. Be sure to check out some glorious sunsets, iconic beaches and classic landmarks from some of my travels to other states and islands. No matter where I am, there's always another beach to explore.

My artistic journey started out with the written word, writing about the sea, the way it evokes a sense of freedom and a feeling of being connected to all creation, as well as the carefree, lazy days of flip flops, beach chairs, surfboards and first loves.

I was encouraged and excited when my writing began to get published and totally elated when my poem, "At Ocean's Edge" won first prize in the Nantucket Directory Contest 2011-12. That inspired me to begin including photos with my poems and stories. In 2013, I authored a photo/poetry book titled, "First Beach Chair on the Right." Although I still love to write, photography is now my main focus and I love creating cards for those who love nature, especially all things beach, and value the impact in today's world of a handwritten note. I hope you find cards here you love, ones you want to include your own personal message inside and send to special people in your life.
